“Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real." -'The Velveteen Rabbit" by Margery Williams
"Puppy" was painted as a gift for a very special little boy who knows without a doubt that his favorite toy is Real.

"Hippo" was commissioned as a gift for a very special young man. Because of the nature of the request, I treated what might have been considered a still life like I would a portrait. "Puppy" was painted at the same time for the young man's little brother.

(I am not in any way connected to the Muppets, Jim Henson, or Disney. Nor am I connected to the Awkward Family Photo folks. This awesome painting was made as parody fan-art, as a gift, not sold, and I make no money off of its image. No prints are available for this painting as I’m pretty sure the wrath of Disney would descend upon me the moment they dried on the printer. Sorry folks.)
